ISTD COMPETITION BRIEF
Overview
OO is a response to the ISTD brief ‘Not Just Fluerons’. The brief celebrates the garden and its role in our lives and the idea was to consider plants in the broadest possible ways.
I chose Bamboo as the context for this publication because I was aware of its versatility as a plant. I wanted to use this topic to create an informative outcome which would teach people about Bamboo and how impressive and useful it is.
Approach
Bamboo is a remarkable plant known for its strength and versatility. It has been used in cultures all over the world for centuries. Bamboo is more than just a plant; it is used in traditional architecture, art and cuisine. It is a symbol of resilience and sustainability.
The design of the publication is inspired by the vertical nature of Bamboo. This is done through the slim page dimensions and concertina bind of the book which spreads out to over 6 meters long. This combined with the recycled paper stock creates an atmosphere around the book which resonates strongly with Bamboos characteristics.
